Debatrix opens branch in Turkey!
Gepubliceerd op Monday 6 August 2007
Almost three years after our start in the Netherlands we are proud to announce the opening of a new branch in Turkey. We see the country as a steppingstone for European expansion and the Turkish society is ready for more debat. This is the first international branch for Debatrix. Based in Istanbul, our new branch will serve more than twenty million Turks in one of the fastest growing cities with more than half a million new citizens per year. We consider it to be a great challenge to provide persuasion trainings and organize debates.
Istanbul is not the first place you think of when opening up a new branch. Or is it? “Turkey is one of the biggest markets with some of the most potential in Europe,” says commercial director Job ten Bosch. “Istanbul is a young, dynamic city with almost twenty million inhabitants. Local governments are dillegently looking for new ways to involve all those twenty million citizens.” And in the rapidly changing corporate world, efficient and constructive meetings are becoming increasingly important. The country is going through massive societal changes and those are not always publicly discussed and debated.
That establishing a Turkish brach wasn’t going to be easy became apparent when it came time to decide on the name. Ten Bosch: “We hoped that our name could be used throughout Europe. Unfortunately that wasn’t possible. The Turkish script does not have the letter ‘x’, so spelling Debatrix isn’t possible.” In consultation with the Turkish partner, the name Retorik Danışmanlık, meaning retorica consultancy, was selected.
The Dutch entrepeneurs would like to keep expanding their horizons. Ten Bosch: “We have already laid some groundwork for other branches, but that will be for the future. Many rulers have waged their empire to conquer Istanbul while behind their backs the homeland land broke out in a revolt.” Laughing out loud Debatrix founder Lars Duursma adds: “It’s up to us to do better!”
